Our second assignment this semester is the power tool redesign. I was assigned a Black & Decker Hedge Trimmer, along with a few other students. Before we began the design process, we tore down the model and fabricated technical drawings of the essential parts, along with the housing pieces.
After doing a little research, I created some basic concepts that tested the overall shape of the hedge trimmer.
And after a few rounds of discussion with my professors and my classmates, I decided on the strengths that I wanted to incorporate into the final hedge trimmer. With the given materials from our professors, I built the main frame that included the blade and motor mechanics.
And now, I am in the final stages of the design. I have a full foam core model, that still needs a lot of work, and detailed sketches for the final Adobe Illustrator drawings. Once it is complete, I should have a fully rendered design, and a prototype ready for review. Here is the most recent model. Let's hope it goes well!
